Police

It is important to keep in mind that the police system in Thailand is different than that at home in a few ways. Police officers in Thailand do not make very much money, so the public is essentially responsible for supporting them financially. Police in Thailand are often called the BIB (boys in brown) because of their uniforms.

Although it probably will not affect you in any way, it is still a good idea for you to learn how the police system works in this country if you’re going to be visiting. By doing this you’ll potentially save yourself a lot of time.

If you are being questioned by a police officer in Thailand, don’t waste your time trying to convince them that you’re innocent of any wrong doing. Make sure that you just keep smiling, and with any luck you’ll be able to sort out the situation quickly and go on your way.

Most of the time small issues with Thailand police can be resolved fairly quickly. If the issue is minor, you’ll either have to pay a fine or go to the station to pay the money you owe. The easiest way to go about doing this is to just give the money you owe directly to the officer.

If you’ve gotten in trouble for a more serious matter, it might take a little bit more time to sort everything out.

Law

There are a lot of different things that can get you in trouble while you’re in Thailand, including getting caught with drugs, underage girls or overstaying your visa.

For men who are visiting Thailand from overseas, the age of consent for women is 18. The age of consent is lower for Thai couples, but that won’t matter to you at all. Keep in mind that many countries are able to prosecute their citizens for crimes they commit while overseas. Do not visit Thailand if you aren’t prepared to abide by their laws completely.

It’s never a good idea to be in possession of drugs when you are visiting another country, and that applies to Thailand. The penalty for being caught with drugs can be quite serious, so you will need to make sure that you avoid this situation at all costs.

You will need to be able to produce a passport on request of a law enforcement official for the duration of your stay in Thailand. Always keep your passport nearby so you can show it to a police officer if they ask you to do so. The last thing you want is to be stopped by a law enforcement official in this country without proof of your passport.

While it may come as somewhat of a shock to those who are visiting Thailand for the first time, prostitution is illegal in this country. Although it is technically on display in many places, it is still technically illegal. Stories about people getting caught gambling or paying for prostitutes is not uncommon, which is why it’s important that you are careful.

The supply of medication requiring a prescription without a prescription is illegal in Thailand. However many drugs, but not all, are available in pharmacies in Pattaya. Erectile deficiency drugs come under this category. Many pharmacies will sell you both the original product and their generic alternatives. Most people find the generic brands as good as (and much cheaper than) the originals product. For generic Viagra ask for Kamagra and Cialis is Apcalis. Don’t use these drugs if you have any sort of cardiovascular problem.
